About Us

Our Origin

The Steel City Church Planting Network was formed in 2020 by a group of local pastors with a desire to see new, biblically-faithful churches established throughout the Western Pennsylvania region. We understand that churches have a life cycle and that oftentimes the best way to revitalize the local church and to reach the lost is through the planting of new churches. Our predecessors in the 20th century understood that well and planted many of the churches that now sit empty in our neighborhoods. Now it is time for this generation to take up the responsibility of planting new churches to reach our region with the life-giving gospel of Jesus Christ!

Our Mission

To plant Bible-centered, Gospel-driven, multiplying churches all around the Western Pennsylvania region.

Our Values

Bible-centered churches don't merely use the Bible to justify their actions. Being Bible-centered means that we faithfully and informatively study the Bible as God's word and seek to live and minister as He has prescribed.

Gospel-driven means that we plant new churches for the purpose of reaching new people. The gospel is man's only hope of salvation and Jesus has commissioned his people to enter into the fields that are ripe for the harvest! Therefore, we plant churches in hope of seeing multitudes of new believers being saved by the gospel. This purpose is in stark contrast to planting churches which seek to meet unmet preferences among the already saved.

Multiplying churches are no longer optional, but an absolute necessity, Existing churches are not sufficiently reaching new generations and many are shutting down altogether. We need multiplying churches to ensure that future genereations have sufficient access and exposure to the gospel.

Our Theological Distinctions

Generally reformed: We are theologically conservative and view the Bible as the story of God’s heroic action to save undeserving men and women.

Complementarian: we believe that God loves and values men and women equally and designed them both to be important and effective in his plan to save the lost and build the Church; but that he also places the responsibility and burden of leadership within the church and the home upon the men. Although this is certainly a secondary (and non-essential) issue when it comes to salvation, we believe it is an important issue in the formation of new churches and their leadership.

Types of Relationships in the Network

Partner Churches: Partner churches are those who wish to formally join the network and find themselves in alignment with the purpose and distinctions of this network. Partner churches may hold other affiliations but must be willing to commit 5% of their annual income to support church plants affiliated with this network. These donations can be given directly to the church(es) of their choice OR the funds can be given to the network to be distributed as needed.

Supporting Churches: Supporting churches are those who do not wish to formally join but who nonetheless have been moved by the need to see more churches planted in our region and want to help through prayer and financial support. These churches may give any amount at any time as the Lord leads them and the network will distribute those funds to new churches that are being planted within the network.
